Cute story – a young lady is eating 2 donuts, her friend says “I thought you were cutting down?”, to
which the young lady replies “what do you mean, of course I am cutting down, usually I eat 3 at a
time” . You could argue that this is how a diet should be, don’t cut out all the food you like
altogether, just reduce what you eat. This is an extreme example, but take last night’s Chinese meal
– well Asian mix Chinese Pork, with Japanese Sushi. I ate a lot less than I usually would so at least I
am making an effort. And, I did not gain weight as I feared, so that’s something.
Today was an awesome day and I actually went for a walk with hubby and the dogs. Not so very far,
but I reached my 2000 steps (believe me it’s a big step for me, pardon the pun. And just to be out of
doors on this fine day. It set me up for an awesome day, and I feel that I walked off a bit of
yesterday’s meal. Also, I did some arm exercises, which really helps my back, and it counts as cardio
/ strength training.
But, its work, work, work, today, I am not complaining, I need to work and I am grateful that I can
work, and that I love the tax work that I do (who can say that – they love tax) but that’s where my
career has taken me, how odd. I would swap that for being a racehorse trainer or motor journalist,
but at least it is interesting, and keeps the roof over my head. The annoying thing is though, when
doing a diet, you have to take time to focus on yourself, really concentrate on what you eat. I do not
like doing that. If I am not working, I would rather be watching a Formula 1 race, watching
something on TV, reading or whatever. Ironically, I would love to be watching MasterChef (the
Australian one) than actually cooking. Although over time, at least by watching that show, I have
picked up a few tricks over the years. But what I mean is, that who has time to cook, do exercises
and such when there is too much work to do? I actually feel guilty If I am not working. I cannot help
it. Maybe its because I went to a Catholic School, while being a Presbyterian so I have the combined
Catholic guilt with that Protestant thing of if you enjoy something it must be bad for you. I even feel
guilty when I am sick, I am compelled to work no matter how sick I am. I really have to learn that
work is only one aspect of my life, and not all consuming. Yes well, enough of that, back to work.
I actually did not have breakfast today, I had a late brunch, after the walk, and I had wonderful
supper of Mince and Gem Squash – yum (really my daughter makes the mince for spaghetti, but I
have the squash instead, which is a good substitute, and she makes such tasty mince, that it’s a treat
to eat. But I was still a bit hungry, so I had dessert, being low-sugar Canderel Chocolate, and a Carb
Clever Ice Cream. The problem is, I should have either had the chocolate, or the ice-cream, but not
both. Even though they are low-carb, does not mean NO CARB, and everything adds up. Still, not
too bad, at least I am trying, and at least it is healthy for me.
So, a better day all round, work hard, walked, and good healthy food. A day to be grateful indeed.
