4th Jan – Weight 98
DAY 3 – Daily Loss 1kg / Weekly Loss 2kg / Total Loss 2kg
Welcome to Day 3. I have decided to keep things professional-ish all the websites I mention, I will add as useful links. Please note that I receive no money at all from these companies (or anyone) these are just my tips and tools I use, which maybe someone also can find helpful. For things like Harvard Medical, I have purchased these myself. I am a member of FatSecret – which is free, and I have the BetterMe Plan. I will quote from these and other articles and sites from time to time, but I will not give out all the details, as I believe in copyright if you know what I mean.
So, a reminder, I am on Day 3 for of my Lose 22 kg in 2022 journey, using my NFC diet, and the aim for the next 12 weeks lose 6 kg. I have lost 2 KG in two days. Yippee, amazing. The mathematically inclined would say “wow, on this basis you will lose 22 kg by 23 January. Oh, if that was so easy. To lose weight I would have to go on a starvation diet or go on Survivor, and most of the Survivor players gain weight back. You should lose weight in a slow and steady fashion, I am told, then the weight stays off. RUBBISH. I have done both fast and furious and slow and steady, either way, I lose, get to a good weight, and then pile it all back on. Why?
The Mary Ellen Pinkham diet going back to 1983 describes a SET Point – as does the Harvard Article. Basically, your body as a built-in weight called a set point, and it will try to get to that weight. So, if you lose weight, your body will do anything to get you back to what it thinks is your set point. For me, I know my body has targeted 92 kg. That does not mean it started out that way, but with my eating behaviour over the years, my body has selected that weight. So funnily enough, when I get too big, like I am now, my body makes me feel terrible, so it seems my body is OK for me to lose weight for the moment. But, let me drop to below 92, my body / brain becomes the devil incarnate. I will be told things in my head like “oh go-ahead, have that chocolate, or chips, you deserve it”. This is OK on the odd occasion, but this becomes a daily habit very quickly, and all the excuses kick back in, then I very quickly get back to 92 and then it spirals out of control.
So, to change the set point is very hard, you have to basically be diligent for the rest of your life. Put in a plan that works for you. I have not yet found that plan (that’s for 2023). This year I will focus on losing the 22kg once and for all.

I am proud of the breakfast I ate – instead of the usual boiled eggs, I had a version of a ploughmans platter – but without the bread. Call it Mary-Ann Beef Salad. Its only 440 kCal and 5g carbs. I had a handful of nuts after just to round things off. I still feel hungry after a meal. But felt great. But, I drank a lot of Fuze Iced Peach Tea – its really good. In one glass, the carb level is OK, but it was so nice, I ended up having 2 glasses.

It is now 4pm, not that hungry – which means I am a bit, but too lazy to make lunch now. It will be supper soonish. So, I am snacking on peanuts – more than the normal handful, let’s say 3 man-size handfuls. I hope that keeps me to supper.

So, during this Lose22in2022 journey, I am building rules for my plan. I do not really like rules but it is clear that if I do not have a plan, I will do and eat what I like, and look where that has landed me. So, I have created a set of rules to follow. But I really hate the idea of rules, so I thought of using business words like “procedures” or “systems” but that makes me gag. Laws? Principles? Sounds like accounting rules, so NO. Maybe Guidelines – yes that’s a bit easier to swallow (get it?). It does give me a bit of leeway, but does not feel too restrictive.
The Guidelines of Lose22in2022© sounds cool to me. Check them out on my page.

Anyway, yay I lasted to supper. Supper was my daughter speciality for me – spicy mince with squash. As I cannot have carbs like spaghetti, I have squash instead, cooked super-soft and I mix up with the mince, which is divine as it is tasty spicy (not hot but yum).
I have just learned about squash – all I know is normal squash (dark green and round) and butternut. I was looking up calories of squash, and normal squash is not listed. So, I found an article on types of squash, now I am an expert. The squash I like is called Acorn Squash – see https://www.allrecipes.com/article/types-of-squash/. Actually, I now remember that I have always known it as GEM squash, and everything I Google pretty much tells me it’s the same thing. No matter, it’s a great replacement for the spaghetti, it still has carbs, it is a vegetable so its good for me. And mixed in with the spicy mince it is OK to eat.
I followed this up with my pudding which is to services of dark chocolate (a serving in my life is a row of a slab). And some more peanuts. It seems peanuts is taking over my life, but this bag I opened on Sunday, its still going.
I never got to exercise at all today, I am telling myself it’s not too bad.
Summary of food intake: My carbs is still high – at 85g, but the lowest so far. I cannot have the dark chocolate and the Fuze Iced tea in one day. But the calories total was 1350 – which is very good.
Until tomorrow, think lose22in2022
