Day 20

Dean and Sam looking over False Bay

21 th Jan – Weight 94.0
Happy Friday
I joined a gym. Yes.
I joined a gym.
I thought I was not going to, but this time there were no sign on fees, and would come to about
R200 a month if I go basically 3 times a month. Actually, this is the 4 th time I have joined a gym over
the past 20 years. (Always the same one, Virgin Active), but, for some reason, each time I join, I tend
to go for a year or two, then I stop going. I have some gym equipment at home (the walker, bicycle,
small dumbbells) so you may ask why join the gym?. Actually, I love going to gym.
Firstly, just being there makes me feel healthier and fitter. Secondly, I am away from food as you
cannot eat in the gym area. Third, its super cool, I mean the air-conditioning is truly amazing. The
fourth and best reason, is that they have a pool, and I love swimming. I am annoyed with myself
that I stopped going to gym. But it’s the same old story, I was always too busy. Anyway, it was fun to
go back there, and look around. I have not been at the gym for such a long time that I forgot that
you have to take around three flights of stairs to get to the first floor, so it felt like a work-out
already. I am so glad we have done this (luckily its not just me, but hubby and my daughter) so it will
be fun. You will think I am joking, but if I won the lottery, I would pack up the work life, and going to
gym would be my new life, I could easily spend 6-8 hours in the gym. Oh well, at least I am making a
good start (again), and this time it’s for keeps.
The rest of the afternoon was shopping, which, if you don’t know by now, is my way of getting my
steps in. Today I did a whopping 4000 steps (some of which would have been walking at the gym)
but it was a great walking day. I am getting better at it. By the way, its not that my legs get tired, not
at all, it’s my back, I get excruciating pain at the 1500 steps mark. So, for me just to reach 2000 steps
is a victory for me. I do know if its my rather large tummy that makes it worse, or that my back was
broken, and I have a collapsed spine. Probably a bit of both. Anyway, I believe the Lose22in2022
plan will help me here. I have no “core” as they say, and building a strong core will help (I am told).
The annoying thing was thar at the gym, while waiting to sign up, I had a Kauai Smoothie – Mango
Lassie – which was loaded with carbs, why do gyms have these? The carb content was 50g. I think
this reversed the weight loss progress that I may have had this week.
Then for supper, I had a plateful of crumbed chicken strips – which I should only have four to limit
the carbs. This meant that I have not lost a thing in three days. But, would you believe, the chicken
strips did not overdo the limit, and I should add that they were cooked in the air-fryer which means
no oil added. So overall, I did not have that much carbs today. And add the exercise / activity. It’s a
good day for me.

Daily summary: Carbs: 43 g and 994 calories
